THC-B is a cannabinoid found in the Cannabis plant which was recently discovered back in 2019. In this article, we will explore the chemical structure of THC-B, the difference between THC and THC-B, potential medical benefits of THC-B, how it affects the body and brain, legal status of THC-B, and more!

What is THC-B

THC-B, or tetrahydrocannabutol, is a cannabinoid is very similar to THC or tetrahydrocannabinol which is the most abundant cannabinoid found in Cannabis. THC-B is considered to be a minor cannabinoid, as it is found in much lower concentrations in cannabis than THC.

THC-B is thought to have some similar medical benefits as well. Some of these include pain relief, inflammation relief, and sleep aid. There is still a dire need for studies to confirm how accurate and potent these benefits can be. THC-B also has psychoactive properties like THC. If you use it, you will get a euphoric high. Similar to THC-P tetrahydrocannabiphorol, another cannabinoid, it is believed to hold a similar 30x strength over THC Delta-9.

It is known to interact with the endocannabinoid system. Due to the chemical structure of THC-B it attaches to  CB1 receptors more effectively compared to THC-B or THC. This effectively makes THC-B’s potency very strong in comparison to these other two compounds.

Potential medical benefits of THC-B

As briefly touched above, it is believed to have pain relieving properties as well as anti-inflammatory, and potential to be a sleep aid. Studies are so limited at this moment that there are no definite answers, but it can be relatively safe to assume that these properties are most likely true due to how almost all cannabinoids tend to fall in this realm.

Is THC-B Legal?

Currently in the USA, THC-B is legal under federal law because of the Farm Bill of 2018. Many States though on the other hand have been outlawing THC-B, and other federal organizations such as the DEA have issued statements that any psychoactive causing cannabinoid is illegal. The loophole that is causing all this confusion is because all THC-B products on the market are mostly derived from cannabis hemp that is grown with less than 0.3% THC. Manufacturers that take this federally legal hemp then extract and alter cannabinoids found inside and concentrate it to make products that contain enough of whatever cannabinoid they’re looking for, such as THC-P. No where in the Farm Bill of 2018 was it clearly laid out that this could be done, and it’s more so clear that law makers we’re not aware this would or could even happen. So as of late, many States have moved forward with their own laws outlawing any psychoactive cannabinoid, and soon with the new Farm Bill of 2023, the federal law will most likely update to reflect a similar stance. It would be safe to assume that any psychoactive cannabinoids including THC-B is illegal in your state if THC Delta-9 is not. Please look into your State’s laws before attempting to purchase any THC-B products!

Potential side effects and risks of THC-B

There are potential side effects and risks associated with using THC-B. The most common side effect of using THC-B is drowsiness, which can be a desired effect. The main risk associated with THC-B is the fact that it is starting to be outlawed along with many of the THC variants in various States. This leaves a vacuum of black-market sales and unregulated products, so it is incredibly important to ensure that THC-B products you use are from a credible shop following current State laws.

It is also important to note that THC-B can interact with certain medications, so be sure to speak to a doctor before using THC-B if you are taking any medications.

THC-B-infused products

THC-B can be found in various product forms, such as edibles, tinctures, oils, and capsules. Be sure when using any products to take in small dosages to see how you feel, you can always take more if the effects are not strong enough.

In conclusion, THC-B is an interesting cannabinoid due to its potential medicinal properties and being something fresh on the market. THC-B may be worth looking into, but please use caution and make sure you are not breaking any laws during these changing times. Hopefully later in 2023, the new Farm Bill and other State laws will settle, and more research may come forward for why THC-B is such an important cannabinoid.
